Well, it’s FINALLY here. After a long wait we’ve finally got a new Star Wars. Even better news- it’s not from George Lucas! This time out JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Mission Impossible 3, Super 8) and Lawrence Kasdan (Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark) have given us something new- yet very familiar movie. Josh Trank is directing the upcoming FANTASTIC FOUR movie, due out later this year, but there was another superhero movie he directed- CHRONICLE. With Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL a year away, the boys of HMP look back at his first epic comic book movie. The year is 2006 and we’re hot off the heels of Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller directed SIN CITY, Zack Snyder takes a stab at another Frank Miller work- 300. It was thought it would do just as well but 300 would go on to VASTLY outgross SIN CITY and lead to massively further carriers of Snyder, Gerard Buttler and.....Michael Fassbender...? Yep, we were surprised too. Does this film live up to the crazy hype it got nearly a decade ago or is it the beautiful masterpiece many believe it to be? This week the boys turn back the clock and review a movie that a lot of people have reverence for- SWAMP THING from director Wes Craven from 1982, staring Louis Jourdan, Adrienne Barbeau, Ray Wise, David Hess and Dick Durock as the title creature. To this point Wes Craven had brought us most notably LAST HOUSE OF THE LEFT and THE HILLS HAVE EYES. Swamp Thing was one of his first big budget (for him) feature would prove somewhat troubling. Swamp Thing has a long history and then there’s that Alan Moore guy....you didn’t think we’d NOT mention him, did you? Does this movie live up to the great memories some folks have or is it just another B-Movie fluff? 1997 was a big year for movies- Titanic, Boogie Nights, LA Confidencial, FaceOff, Jackie Brown- heck, even Con Air- but none of them come close (and for good reason) to STEEL, staring Shaquille O'Neal. A long time, vocal fan of Superman, Shaq wanted more than anything to play John Henry Irons- the man who would become the hero known as Steel and in 1997- he got his chance.
